Capture stores your recordings and album projects in the location you choose. Optional Discogs lookups bring release details into the project.

Local audio, local projects. Capture does not upload your recorded audio. The app has no analytics, advertising, or developer telemetry.

Audio-input permission

macOS asks for microphone permission to let Capture access audio-input devices, including external audio interfaces. That access is used for stereo monitoring and recording. You can change it in System Settings under Privacy & Security → Microphone.

Files and settings on your Mac

A capture project contains album metadata, track information, artwork, original CAF audio masters, waveform caches, and edit markers. Exports contain the selected audio regions and their embedded metadata and cover art. Projects and exports are written to the locations you select.

The app also saves input-device and channel preferences and permission bookmarks for selected storage locations. Your storage and backup choices determine where copies of these files are kept, including any synced folder you choose.

Optional Discogs requests

When you fetch a release or search by artist and album, Capture sends that request to Discogs. Artwork is downloaded from the image URL supplied with the release. These services receive the network information needed to handle the request, such as your IP address, and the release ID or search terms you submit.

A personal token is required for artist/album searches. Capture stores the token in macOS Keychain and supplies it to Discogs when making authenticated requests. The token is not written into the capture project. You can use manual metadata entry instead.

Release metadata and artwork are saved locally. Subsequent project editing and FLAC export do not require Discogs. Discogs handles requests under its own privacy policy.

Removing your data

You can remove project folders and exports using Finder. Exports saved outside a project, backups, and other copies need to be removed separately. Deleting a project does not remove the Discogs credential from Keychain. Clear the personal token in Capture’s metadata setup if you want to remove that stored credential.

A hosting server receives information needed to deliver requested pages, such as the requested URL, IP address, and browser information. External links and your email service have their own data-handling practices.
